I’m very impressed with Chris August’s “7×70.”  Not often am I impressed with songs on contemporary Christian stations, but one listen to “7×70” hooked me.

Now, I must admit that I have my reservations about the song.  Production-wise, the strings felt thrown-in.  Some of the lyrics are cliché, especially the forced rhyme of “I thought the pain was here to stay / But forgiveness made a way.”

The concept of the song is what excites me.  The speaker forgives his parents for a troubled and broken home.  On airways filled with abstract, romantic ballads to God, a song with strong application (forgiveness) for an all-too-common Christian experience (parents’ divorcing) is, frankly, refreshing.

Well done, sir.
